Notice of Waste Plastic Recycling

Due to the increasing consumption of plastic products, the amount of waste plastics has also been increasing. Currently, China's waste plastics are mainly plastic films, plastic yarns and braids, foam, plastic packaging boxes and containers, household plastic products, plastic bags and agricultural films. In addition, the annual consumption of plastics for automobiles in China has reached 400,000 tons, and the annual consumption of plastics for electronic and household appliances exceeds 1 million tons. These products become one of the important sources of waste plastics after scrapping. It is understood that in 2011, China produced about 28 million tons of waste plastics and 34.13 million tons in 2012. The storage, transportation and processing of these waste plastics will inevitably damage the environment and endanger human health before the application and reprocessing of waste plastic materials.

To promote plastic recycling, the Society of plastics Industry, Inc. (USA) has proposed a labeling system that uses plastic types for classification: the "resin identification code" (often translated as "plastic "material code" or "plastic code"). Recyclable plastic containers are accompanied by a triangular label surrounded by three arrows, which indicates plastic.

The Chinese national standard (GB18455-2001) stipulates that plastic packaging products or plastic containers with a volume of more than 100 ml must be visually marked with a plastic recycling label.

Abbreviation Name Use

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), also known as polyester, is commonly found in PET bottles.

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is found in lotion containers, milk bottles and supermarket plastic bags.

PVC is found in pipes, outdoor furniture and raincoats.

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is found in the packaging of toothpaste or facial cleanser tubes.

Polypropylene (PP) is commonly found in bottle caps, straws and microwaveable food containers.

Polystyrene (PS) is classified as either unfoamed or foamed. Unexpanded or foam polystyrene, commonly found in certain beverage (e.g., Nutrilite) containers; foam is known as polystyrene foam and is used for packaging rubber, disposable insulated plastic cups, packaging frozen meat containers, and lunch boxes. Other recyclable plastic products include polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), polylactic acid (PLA), nylon and fiberglass (FRP), and biaxially oriented polylactic acid film (BOPLA).
